CANINE MEMORIAL PARK
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office created its first K-9 Unit in 1986. The K-9 unit consisted of two dog teams; Cpl Kelly with K-9 Wojo and Cpl Mathews with K-9 Loki. Since then the K-9 Unit has grown to a five team unit.
Over the last twenty years several canines have retired, with some expiring shortly after their retirement. Therefore, in 2007 the idea of a place to honor these brave partners took shape.
With this idea, the Adopt-A-Brick program was established. Numerous bricks were adopted; some were engraved in the memory of a loved one, or beloved pet, even some in honor of our K-9 partners. These bricks have become a part of the permanent walkway throughout the Canine Park.
The Canine Memorial Park was constructed solely from proceeds of the adopt-a-brick program and local business owners who generously donated material and labor to complete the project in the summer of 2008. Bricks may still be adopted, at a cost of thirty five dollars per brick, and proceeds will be used to help maintain the Park. Each brick may be personalized with up to three lines per bricks and no more than 18 characters per line.
We thank you, the members of our community, for making this tribute to our dedicated canine officers possible.
