The 2010 Census: Coming Soon
As the 2010 Census approaches, each of our households will receive a form. Since the census has such an impact on the Flagler County community in which we live and work, we are asking for your participation. Census data shapes the future of our community and defines our voice in Congress. Census information helps determine locations for schools, roads, hospitals, child care, senior citizen centers and more. Businesses use census data to locate supermarkets, shopping centers, new housing and other facilities.  The Census determines how many seats each state will have in the US House of Representatives as well as the boundaries of legislative districts.  There are so many positives to participating.   Please complete and mail back your form, and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to do the same. Our census numbers stick with us for 10 years so let’s make sure that FLAGLER COUNTS!

The 2010 Decennial Census is upon us.

The goal of the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Commerce, is to meet constitutional and legislative requirements to count the U.S. population. The decennial census process is the largest domestic undertaking in the United States.

The data produced from the decennial census are used to reapportion the seats of the U.S. House of Representatives and realign the boundaries of the legislative districts of each state. Census data also are used to allocate more than $400 billion each year in federal financial assistance and to provide a social, demographic, and economical profile of the Nation’s people. This profile assists in guiding policy decisions at each level of government.

In an effort to accurately count the population, census questionnaires will be delivered either by hand or mail to residents, beginning February 2010. Through late August 2010, Census Bureau temporary field staff will work in neighborhoods across the United States to deliver questionnaires, collect information from those who have not returned their census questionnaire, and verify address. The Census Bureau is requesting your assistance as we begin household contacts to deliver census questionnaires starting the week of February 22, 2010.
